Botox / Xeomin

Botox, Xeomin, Dysport and Jeuveau are top-rated non-surgical cosmetic options used to reverse time. Re-envision those lines and wrinkles around the upper face disappearing.

Neurotoxins like Botox and Xeomin are common treatments used to fight against severe facial lines and folds. While they work the same, they are still different methods. Both are injectable shots that work to reduce how certain lines and blemishes appear on your skin. However, BOTOX and XEOMIN both have their specific strengths and their benefits.

How It Works

BOTOX and XEOMIN both involve injecting a neurotoxin that paralyzes the muscles. This is underneath the skin, and it is meant to smooth out and make the skin smooth out. In addition, these treatments reduce the appearance of critical lines and wrinkles, producing more relevant results for those looking to appear younger.

Length of Treatment

Treatment for BOTOX or XEOMIN only takes minutes, and there are multiple injections. This is done to help reduce certain lines and wrinkles quickly. Most importantly, you can return to work or your normal activities soon after because of the short downtime required for these treatments.

Side Effects

There are some side effects. Because they both use the botulinum toxin, this can result in the following:

  • Headaches
  • Minor pain or swelling at the injection sites
  • Temporary numbness around injection sites

These usually go away within a week after treatment. However, there are rare serious side effects such as difficulty breathing, swallowing, eating, or speaking. Individuals who experience these issues must see a medical professional immediately for emergency treatment.

BOTOX

BOTOX is used to treat facial lines and folds and can last up to three to six months. Specifically, BOTOX treats forehead lines and wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet lines and wrinkles.

Additionally, BOTOX can be used to treat hyperhidrosis, also known as excessive sweating. This can be done by preventing the sweat glands from producing sweat. This can be done in the underarms, hands, scalp, and head. These treatments last between six and nine months.

BOTOX contains additive proteins that help to protect with botulinum molecules so the toxin can complete its job. Unfortunately, some people might develop antibodies to these proteins, which can reduce the effectiveness of the BOTOX treatments.

BOTOX is the most appropriate treatment for those who want to cure their crow’s feet or forehead lines. Frown lines also are treatable with BOTOX. However, there are some benefits and reasons people choose to use XEOMIN as well.

XEOMIN

As a new product, XEOMIN rivals BOTOX because of the accessibility that it offers people who want to turn back the clock. Yet, XEOMIN works differently than BOTOX and can provide different benefits.

This treatment is explicitly excellent for those who need to treat their glabellar lines. These are the frown lines between the eyebrows. XEOMIN can soften the appearance and remove them entirely in some situations.

Results with XEOMIN can take a week to notice, but potentially up to a month. However, unlike BOTOX, this treatment only lasts up to three months. This is because XEOMIN doesn’t have any additive proteins, making it a purer formula for patients.

For those looking to treat their frown lines, this is perfect for you. BOTOX should treat all other concerns.

Dysport

The FDA approved Dysport in 2009 for use in the United States. Similar to Botox it has been proven effective, in non-invasive treatment of fine lines and wrinkles.

Like Botox, Botulinum Type A is the active ingredient in Dysport. Dysport is used to treat moderate to severe forehead lines, frown lines or number 11 lines. Dysport is diluted in a 3:1 split and this contributes to it spreading faster, and evenly over larger areas with fewer injections.

Dysport can start its effect after 2-3 days while Botox takes effect in 7-10 days. It’s results can last up to 5 months.

Jeuveau

Jeuveau is the new kid on the block and joined Botox, Xeomin and Dysport when it earned FDA approval in 2019. Its self-ascribed nickname is NEWTOX.

Like Botox, Jeuveau is also made from botulinum toxin Type A. There are minor differences in the manufacturing and purification processes for each product.

Clinically they are very similar, and both are used to treat the same types of cosmetic concerns. Similar to dysport, Jeuveau onset of action is 2-3 days and lasts up to 5 months as well. Jeuveau’s Hi-Pure technology reportedly improves its absorption and its precision. Jeuveau may also be a solid option for patients who have noticed Botox is becoming less effective for them.
